Another Weight Check
So, apparently our pediatrician has a problem with small people. Either that or he likes to keep me busy by running back and forth to the doctor's office. Let me clarify: when Leah turned a year old her pediatrician became "concerned"about her weight (or lack thereof) and had me bring her back at 13 and 14 months for weight checks. At her 15 month appoinment his concern escalated and he gave me a list of high fat/high calorie foods to offer her including Pediasure daily (yeah, right), whole milk instead of 2% or skim, and milkshakes and/or smoothies. And he scheduled another weight check for the next month - which was yesterday! Even though she had gained 2 ounces this past month, that apparently was not enough to satisfy said pediatrician. When he opened his mouth to speak, out came the word "nutritionist" and suddenly I could not stay silent any longer. So what if she is small? So what if she is on the lower end of some obscure children's growth chart? She is still gaining isn't she? She is happy, healthy, and meeting all milestones on time! So, I left his office with no more weight checks and no nuritionist. We are just going to continue doing what we have been doing - raising a happy, healthy little girl who happens to be of a smaller proportion than peers of her age! By the way, she was 19 pounds and 5 ounces - 28.5 inches tall. Almost the exact measurements of her momma at the same age - and, somehow, I survived childhood.
